‘Life is for Living’ has always been my moto and I believe on earth we have been given everything needed to have a full, long and high quality life.
Self-actualisation is when one’s potential is fully realized above being free of disease and enables one to enjoy a full life. It is when mind , body and soul are fulfilled which requires self-empowerment, motivation and ultimately self-healing.
I was always a sporty type individual and participated in various sporting events like athletics, Netball, Swimming and Squash. After thee children and whilst working as a General Practitioner, I was overwhelmed with stress due to the demands of long working hours whilst maintaining a family home life. I realised I had to create a management plan to fit in with my current lifestyle.
Knowing myself, the first focus was to restart regular physical activity which I had given up since having since having my first son 13 yrs ago. I could only run at weekends. I committed my self to run a 5km race for Breast Cancer in Old Deer Park in Richmond with a friend. The aim was just to complete the race which I did in 25 minutes! The training process is what I enjoyed most; I spent hours reflecting whilst observing the natural beauty of the Thames Path and my local Royal Parks. I used the time whilst I ran to solve problems in my my work life, and practise mindfulness so when I arrived home I was relaxed..
I continued running and now after 26 years, it is difficult to stop but I now spread out my runs through the week. I have also picked up league tennis, cycling and swimming to my exercise repertoire.
My Personal Health Journey
I cannot confess to a diet but to making food modifications based on what I like to eat, quality of the food and the benefit of food to prevent disease and maintain excellent well being. There is a lot of research an options and one needs to choose what is best for them. Ultimately the proof would result in excellent physical attributes based on objective data.
